She was very calm and a keen observer of human behavior when she in the aviaries in early 2018. In the wild, she does her own thing and particularly likes hanging out under a big shady tree on a golf course.

She was an eager participant in behavioral choice tests when she was in the aviaries in early 2018: she was really curious and exploratory and was willing do anything for peanuts. Back in the wild, she settled in with a group of grackles that are nesting in two big pine trees near a soccer stadium.

Taquito is one of those rare grackles that were able to catch twice, so after we already had data on him in the wild, we were able to bring him into the aviaries and learn more about what this guy knows. It turns out he is pretty slow to learn and reverse color preferences, but pretty good at solving the detour task, and he knows how to use computers!
